Environment and Climate Change Canada is pleased to announce the upcoming launch of a new intake under the Low Carbon Economy Challenge Fund! The Challenge Fund supports projects that reduce Canada’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, generate clean growth, build resilient communities, and help create jobs for Canadians. The next Challenge Fund intake will launch in early October 2023 and applications will be accepted until early 2024.
What’s New?
1. There will be approximately $450 million available over six years to support the Challenge Fund.
2. The application process for the Challenge Fund has been simplified and an Expression of Interest is no longer required. Instead, a self-screening tool will be available for applicants to help them better understand their project’s eligibility and competitiveness, prior to applying.
3. To improve program predictability for applicants, the Challenge Fund will offer annual intakes.
To help potential applicants better understand the types of projects that are eligible and competitive under the Challenge Fund, please see the attached document which highlights results from the last intake period. Please note that the Challenge Fund remains similar to previous intakes under the former Champions stream regarding the importance of federal cost-effectiveness, and will include some different eligibility criteria.
