BOMI Canada – Building Owners and Managers Institute of Canada
Expand your knowledge and accelerate your career with a BOMI certificate or designation. No matter what your experience, your aspirations, or your schedule, we have a program track that can take your career to the next level. BOMI designation and certificate programs are designed for those interested in property and facilities management.
Designation or Certification
Certificates are sub-sets of the designations. In other words, the courses required to get one of the certificates are the same courses required to get one of the designations. The difference is that it takes fewer courses (three) to get a certificate than it does to get a designation (eight). The courses required for a designation cover a broad area of material while the courses required for a certificate focus on specific areas within the property or facility management field, hence the requirement for fewer courses.
Do you take a designation or a certificate? It really depends upon your career objectives. If you intend to take all the courses required for a designation then enrol in the designation. To get your designation will take approximately 3 years. If you take 3 courses per year, a certificate can take as little as one year to complete. Have a look at the requirements for each of the programs and assess your time commitment and career objectives before you make a selection.
BOMI Canada offers several options with respect to the delivery of BOMI's courses. You may take them by self-study, on-line or in an accelerated 3-4 day long classroom session.
The course material is sent to you for you to review on your own time. You will have six months in which to review the material and prepare for the exam. The six months starts once you register for the course.
A hard copy of the course material is sent to you in advance and you are provided an access account that provides you access to the on-line supplemental course material. Each week, over a period of 15 weeks, a chapter(s) is presented from the course material. Students have access to a system that connects them to other students in the course along with the instructor. Students can pose or respond to questions as a supplemental way to enhance the learning process. During the 15 weeks there will be 2-3 on-line lectures summarizing some of the content from the course. The students will have up to 6 months from the start of the course to take the exam.
Accelerated Classroom Course
Similar to the other study methods students are sent the course material in advance of the course. They are encouraged to review the material prior to attending the classroom session. The 3-4 day sessions will be facilitated by an instructor who will work through the course material preparing the students for the exam.
Corporate Classroom Course
Similar to accelerated classroom courses, BOMI Canada can provide individual organizations with an accelerated classroom session for their employees based on their needs and location. BOMI Canada contracts with the organization to deliver the course material at your location, at a mutually convenient time. For more details contact BOMI Canada directly.
