I had just started my mandate as president of BOMA Quebec when I found myself in the thick of things as we all plunged into the long-awaited launch of the new Building Energy Challenge, the fruit of three years of hard work and preparation carried out by my predecessor and his partners. We can be duly proud of this new vehicle for action and mobilization, as it is yet another confirmation of the leadership demonstrated by our association as regards sustainable, high performing and responsible building management.
Ready to hop aboard? I am pleased to announce that several buildings have already signed on to actively participate in this competition. We sincerely hope that you will take part in this challenge, which can only produce winners at all levels. Visit the website defienergie.ca for more information. You'll see that much has been done to accompany you throughout the process step by step in logical, concrete fashion. Rest assured that we are always there to provide information and support at any time.
Two Quebec Buildings win International Honours!
Speaking of winners, I am thrilled to announce that the Sun Life Building and the Pierre Elliot Trudeau Airport were among the recipients of the prestigious Building of the Year awards bestowed by BOMA International at the TOBY® Awards ceremony in San Antonio on Tuesday, June 26 during the organization's annual conference. The Sun Life Building stood out in the Historical Building category, and Pierre Elliot Trudeau Airport won in the Public Assembly Building category.
The TOBY awards (TOBY® - The Outstanding Building of the Year) is the most prestigious and comprehensive program of its kind in the commercial real estate industry, recognizing quality in commercial real estate buildings and rewarding excellence in building management.
Both Linda Carbone, executive director of BOMA Quebec, and I attended the conference. We were extremely pleased to see both these organizations, and our colleagues, receive such honours. Both organizations had made their mark at the provincial level during the BOMA Awards Gala in May 2016, which made them eligible for the national BOMA Canada competition, and then the BOMA International competition. Now after a long journey competing against the best in the world they have scaled a mighty peak. Our sincere congratulations to these remarkable management teams.
I would like to take this opportunity to remind you that the cycle of recognizing excellence in building management will resume very soon. Registration for the next BOMA Awards competition starts this fall. Yes, it's already been two years since the last one. Please start considering your building as a possible candidate and use this exceptional showcase to promote your accomplishments and the hard work of your teams. As you can see, it can take you quite far. I'm sure you all have something that deserves to be in the spotlight!
This newsletter is the last of the season, and the next will be in early autumn. Although I have been at the helm of BOMA Quebec only for a short while, I can't wait to see you again soon and to pursue this ongoing adventure with you.
I wish you all a wonderful and relaxing vacation.
Bruno Turcotte, President
